  1. sp = Sporadic CJD; ia = iatrogenic CJD; fa = familiar CJD; d.l. = diagnostic level based on the WHO and the Masters criteria; d.w. = duration from the onset of the disease to the diagnostic examination. In all 21 cases, codon 129 of PRNP was Met/Met homozygous, whereas codon 219 was Glu/Glu homozygous. Total protein contents of all the patients stayed within the normal range. All patients in this study were Asian.
